PURPOSE OF THE TRAINING
Demand from families for home-based childminders is growing all over Switzerland. To best meet the needs of each family, each parent and each child, the candidate must have the necessary baggage to carry out all the tasks assigned to him or her. This is also known as babysitting, but today the sector has become professional.
THE JOB :
Home childminding involves looking after children in their own home, in their own family environment. The duties of a home childminder can vary depending on the family's needs:
- Ensuring the child's safety in all circumstances.
- Helping children with their daily activities (eating, washing, dressing, etc.)
- Offering fun and educational activities adapted to the child's age.
- Accompany the child on outings (park, extra-curricular activities, etc.)
- Travelling to and from the nursery or day nursery, if necessary.
- Ensuring the hygiene and cleanliness of the child's environment.
- Communicating with parents about the child's day.
Working as a home childminder requires specific skills and qualities if you want to look after children safely and effectively:
Skills required in the home childcare profession :
- Skills in behavioural analysis of children
- Teaching skills to offer age-appropriate activities
- First aid skills
- Knowledge of health and safety rules
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents
- Knowledge of computerised planning management tools
The qualities of a home childminder :
- Patience and gentleness to support children at every stage of their daily lives
- Firmness in enforcing health and safety rules
- Organisation and planning to manage the child's daily activities
- Discretion and respect for family privacy
- The ability to listen and empathise in order to understand the needs of the child and the family

- Length of apprenticeship: 90 hours of theory + 2 weeks of practical work experience in the early childhood field
- 03.03.25 to 24.03.25: Monday to Friday (except Wednesday) 09'00 to 16'00
- 05.05.25 to 26.05.25: Monday to Friday (except Wednesday) 09'00 to 16'00
